Lighting

I went to see Westfield at night to explore more about lighting and how to use it especially on the green wall.

Green wall

Green wall and waterfeature illuminate at night.

Lighting used in the restaurant called Fire & Stone. I like the use of warm colour on wall. It creates warm atmosphere.
Inside Westfield could be useful for the screen and shelter I am designing in the garden.

I found this most interesting, it has nothing to do with lighting but I love the chairs that Joe Delucci's used. Also with you go to Westfield one day go to that shop and order a milkshake they are incredibly good, made with ice cream. You can chose and mix various flavours. Try it they are delicious and I think the shop is very well designed. Love the seats.

Masterplan document

This time I wanted to show some part of my masterplan document especially my precedent images because I am still working on those and improving them to help me in my plan at 1:200.
Promenade Plantee, Parc de Bercy (both in Paris), Music garden (Toronto), Bury Court (Surrey) designed by Christopher Bradley-Hole.
Two of the pictures on this page were taken by me. But I put the source and explanation under each picture but I realise when I put preview that they are too small and not readable so if you want more information ask me.

In this page I wanted to show the sort of lighting and planting I am interested to create, the High Line (Manhattan) roof garden designed by Piet Oudolf, Green wall at Westfield (London), Bury Court (Surrey) designed by Piet Oudolf.

Masterplan

I was concentrating on a project: masterplanning document which we just hand in this Monday so I didn't have time to post something last week and I am sorry for the delay.
Here is my masterplan rendered that I hand in last week.

My masterplan which I change the brightness and the contrast of my photo to make it more realistic even if it is still not right yet.
I am quite proud of the changes I made from my previous masterplan but I am still unhappy with my rendering which I am trying to improve as my aim for the next coming weeks.

My section n 1
I am glad I put a sky they look much better with it. Less empty I think. I did choose my section and sketches carefully hoping it will help people understanding my design and my masterplan.

My section n 2
Here in this section I try to represent the various season because it is a seasonal garden so it is important to represent it well.

My sketches
They give more feeling to the site which is important. I think they give you the real atmosphere you will be feeling if the design was to be build. But it is true I didn't put enough annotations on those sketches and I think on some I could have put a lot more people to show the crowd in the Queen's Walk. I also try to show various season but I realise I forgot to draw winter as I was rendering them. What a shame!!!

Draft masterplanning

I apologise for not posting anything last week as I was working very hard and I spend lots of my nights working on two -  three project at the same time. I am glad I have hand in one on Monday. But what I will be showing you now is my masterplanning I thought we have to hand in yesterday and I am glad we didn't have to hand in it because they were a lot of mistake especially the fact that my rendering was very rough. So I am spending this week redoing my masterplanning as well as trying to finish my draft masterplanning document which I already started. Here are picture of my masterplanning drawing I have done and shown this Monday. You will notice yourself that there are not good enough.

Green Wall

For my masterplan project I want to have a green wall so I went looking at a few green wall to look at them more closely so I can have a better feeling of how they work and to see what sort of plants they are composed of.

So here is some photos of the Green wall at the O2 arena at North Greenwich:

Waterfeature is also part of the green wall. It was an icy day when I visit the site and the waterfeature was covered of ice.

The back of the green wall is composed of climbing plant (ivy).

Here is a closer look of  the green wall.
Another green wall I went to look at is at La Defence and was designed by Patrick Blanc:

Unfortunately I just realise I took photos of it with my sister camera so I will put more of it when she will send them to me. Sorry about it.

Here is the green wall at Westfield that I went to see today as I just came back from France:

Here we can see some plants are missing this is due to the fact that it is at a height where children can reach them and pull them away.

Uproot plants.

Hidden doors to provide access to the green wall inside it.

Other side of the green wall, residential side which is the sunny side.

Grasses and ivy are used in the sunny side.

Bulbs are used also in the green wall.

Lighting for the waterfeature.

La defence

I went to La Defence in Paris where I found some interesting gardens and place. I hope you will find them inspiring.

First I will show you place Jean Millier (La defence 6) which was called formerly place de la Coupole.
I like the steps leading to the place which were carefully designed to allow access to a crowd and to disable and to pushchair.

One of the interesting garden is a path used as a garden divided in two one for disabled people with ramp and another one with steps as this garden is going under a bridge (road). This garden was created as a safe pedestrian path where the roads surrounding it doesn't affect the mood. You just feel comfortable and relax in this path/garden.

Another interesting place is an entrance to the metro (tube) and the underground. They used mirror to produce an effect of water, reflection and extension.

Here is the steps leading to the underground. We can also see it reflection in the mirror.

I also found a curvy bench which look fantastic and nicely designed but it is really low, at least children can seat down!!!

Here is another steps with planting on either side:

And a roof garden next to La Defence Arch where they used only bamboo. But I can tell you it is a windy area worse than Jubilee gardens as it is surrounded by huge building.

Renaissance hotel's garden (Jardin de Valmy) which I quite like the design and the plants used.

Roof garden (underneath there is the entrance and the hall of the hotel) with the hotel's room next to it.

the hotel's garden called Jardin de Valmy.

And finally a pedestrian bridge called La Jetée next to the cemetery of Neuilly.

Benches are the same high of the path (on the bridge) but they have an access which is lower. Quite clever as disable can used the bench and people can seat next to them.

Jardins de l'Arches underneath the pedestrian bridge.
